December is the season for Christmas themed flea markets in Cochin. These markets build up the vibe of the season with cakes, home decor, clothes, bags all dedicated to the festival. The prominent colors red, green and white dominate the event keeping the spirits of the season live and vibrant!

This year flea market events commenced with The annual Christmas Sale conducted by St Teresa’s College on 5th December, 2018, an exclusive women only event. Conducted on the premises of the college and organised by teachers and an enthusiastic alumni group this is a much anticipated event for the people in Kochi.

The stalls are modestly priced and need to be booked a week before the event. The stalls were categorised into Food, Home Décor and Clothing and allotted for each person before the gates are opened for visitors.

The event began at 9 am and the traffic jam in front of the college and the by lanes gives an impression of the crowd. The venue looked like a flea market with Christmas being the apparent theme for this time of the year. After you enter the premise you were greeted with the food stalls on the left.  Home bakers stalls had everything to put you in the Christmas mood from traditional Christmas plum cakes to cupcakes and tarts. Remaining stalls had authentic kappa and meen curry, biriyani, juices, vegetarian and non vegetarian snacks to satisfy everyone’s taste bud.

After the food counter is the home décor arena. Again the Christmas theme was very evident here be it in the candles, crockery, table mats or artefacts. And towards the end is the clothing store and it had collection from boutiques and saree curators. The place was buzzing with woman buying kurtas, sarees, bed sheets, kid’s dresses and much more.

Another prominent one which happened is the Santa’s Market held on 15th and 16th of December, 2018 at Banerjee Road. Hosting city’s best home bakers and artists this is a niche event for women entrepreneurs to showcase their products and talent.

Not ending with these there are many more such markets happening around the city till 25th of December.  All these events are  crowded, vibrant abuzz with activity. But in all these events big or small what stands out is the zest and zeal displayed by each and every woman entrepreneur who takes time and effort to be there. These events gives budding as well as established woman entrepreneurs a platform to showcase and sell their products at the same time network and connect with other women entrepreneurs.
